Fred Beteille of YouTube

YouTube product manager Fred Beteille has been elected chairman of the Music Business Association (Music Biz) board of directors. The move follows the departure of longtime chair Rachelle Friedman, of J&R Music & Computer World, who announced her retirement in May after serving seven terms leading the trade organization.

Formerly NARM, Music Biz represents music retailers, distributors, and other involved in the sale of music. The group's president, James Donio, called Beteille a "key player in the digital music marketplace," and in a press release the new chairman praised his predecessor Friedman and declared he was ready to get to work.

"I look forward to applying my knowledge to the industry as a whole, ensuring that all of our members and all kinds of music artists are able to take advantage of the latest opportunities around advanced technology, rights management, new business models, and more," he said.

Before joining YouTube, Beteille was svp of operations and technology at RightsFlow, a royalties and licensing service that was purchased by Google in late-2011. Prior to that the NYU grad worked at The Harry Fox Agency.

Other members of the Music Biz board include Christina Calio of Microsoft, Steve Savoca of Spotify, Matt Signore of WMG, Colin Young of iTunes, and Dave Zierler of INgrooves, among others.
